Sarkar total box office collection: Vijay film flies past Rs 250 crore

Director AR Murugadoss's recently-released film Sarkar starring Vijay, Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar released on Diwali (November 6). The film took a thunderous opening worldwidedespite getting mixed reviews.

According to the latest report, Sarkar has zoomed past the Rs 250-crore-mark and is declared a blockbuster film. Trade pundits reveal that the movie has earned about Rs 253 crore approximately so far.
The theatrical run of Sarkar might come to an end as Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's big-budget flick 2.0 is releasing in over 10,000 screens worldwide on November 29.
Before the release of Sarkar, co-director and writer Varun Rajendran accused AR Murugadoss of plagiarism and approached the court for the same. Later, Varun and the makers of Sarkar decided to settle the issue out of court.
As a result, AR Murugadoss agreed to display a message stating that the theme of Varun Rajendran's Sengol and Sarkar are one and the same. The Kaththi director also accepted that Varun had registered his script in 2007 with the Writer's Union.
After the film's release, Sarkar landed in trouble for offending senior ministers of AIADMK party as few scenes criticised the government's welfare schemes introduced by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
