Will Mani Ratnam revive Ponniyin Selvan with Vijay and Vikram?

Renowned director Mani Ratnam tasted success this year with Chekka Chivantha Vaanam after delivering two flops in a row. The multi-starrer gangster film dealt with the story of three brothers who dug their own graves in the thirst to take over their father's throne.

Now, the rumour mills are churning out reports that the filmmaker is planning to revive his dream project which is the onscreen adaptation of Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan. The idea has been in Ratnam's mind for several years now, but nothing materialised all these years.

Going by the reports, the Kaatru Veliyidai director is said to have convinced Vijay, Vikram and Simbu to be part of this mega-budget flick. If everything goes well, the untitled film might go on floors sometime in 2020.
Sources close to the unit reveal that several look tests have been conducted as well. However, there is no official confirmation on the same.
It has been Mani Ratnam's long-time dream to make Ponniyin Selvan into a film. It looks like his pet project is finally taking shape.
On the professional front, Vijay is busy with Thalapathy 63 while Vikram is shooting for Kadaram Kondan. Simbu is awaiting the release of Sundar C's Vantha Rajavathan Varuven and also has a couple of films in the pipeline.
